Fantasy Strategy
Do you like Fantasy Football? Do you like Gambling? More importantly, do you hate math? If you are like me, you said, “yes” to all three. At DraftStreet.com you can put your money where your mouth is and compete against other fantasy degenerates like yourself! The website has been building in popularity and offers three types of games for daily fantasy football action.
This article will focus on the Pick’em style of play. In Pick’em leagues there are eight tiers of players. Each tier has 5-8 players in it. You can select one player to join your team. Instead of having a salary and having to worry about the math, you just pick which player you think will perform best out of the group. It literally takes around two minutes. Let’s grab a look at one of my week 4 entries at Draftstreet.com and be sure to follow along with our defensive team statistical breakdown.
The league I entered was a $22 two-man competition. Winner gets $40 because Draftstreet rakes a dollar for every ten.
Be sure to take a look at our tips on playing for money responsibly before taking on this journey that involves risking your hard-earned cash.
DraftStreet Tier 1:
Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford, Andrew Luck, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson
My Pick: Tony Romo
Romo rolls into San Diego to face a Chargers team that has given up the most passing yards through three games. The Chargers are the only team to give up over 1,000 yards thus far and only have one interception as a team. We have said it time and again… Romo may not be the greatest NFL quarterback, but the guy puts up the fantasy points.
DraftStreet Tier 2:
Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Adrian Peterson, Jimmy Graham, LeSean McCoy
My Pick: Calvin Johnson
It is so hard to argue against Megatron right now. The man is enormous and it really doesn’t matter who he’s going against. He still finds ways to be extremely productive.
DraftStreet Tier 3:
Brandon Marshall, A.J. Green, Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, Victor Cruz, DeSean Jackson, Antonio Brown, Pierre Garcon
My Pick: Antonio Brown
You might say to yourself, “Why not take Dez if you have Romo.” I don’t like to put all of my eggs in one basket. Let’s say Dallas has a terrible game. Now I am losing out on two Tiers instead of one. I personally like to spread it out a bit. Oh, and did I mention that Brown is facing a Minnesota Defense who has given up a league high, nine passing touchdowns against? That’s three a game and I would bet Brown will be one of those three.
DraftStreet Tier 4:
DeMarco Murray, Reggie Bush, Trent Richardson, Darren McFadden, Marshawn Lynch, Doug Martin, Alfred Morris, Bernard Pierce
My Pick: Alfred Morris
There are so many questions around this group of players, but something tells me that Morris is going to have fun against the Raiders who were letting all three of Denver’s backs run all over them.
DraftStreet Tier 5:
E.J. Manuel, Jay Cutler, Andy Dalton, Alex Smith, Ryan Tannehill, Eli Manning, Geno Smith, Ben Roethlisberger
My Pick: Ben Roethlisberger
I know, I know, I just said I don’t like to double up on QB/WR combos. Here is the deal, the Minnesota Vikings not only gave up a league high 9 passing touchdowns, they are also top 5 for yards against and yards per game. One more thing, three of the Vikings Defensive Backs are nursing injuries. I am guessing a long flight to London isn’t going to help the situation. The fantasy gods are begging you to pick Steelers this week.
DraftStreet Tier 6:
Stevie Johnson, Josh Gordon, Eric Decker, Reggie Wayne, Julian Edelman, Marques Colston, Larry Fitzgerald, Torrey Smith
My Pick: Eric Decker
The Denver Broncos’ offense is too explosive to not have a slice of pie for everyone. Decker may not be the best player out of this group, but the Philly defense is going to have trouble controlling Peyton Manning and his band of brothers.
DraftStreet Tier 7:
Fred Jackson, Knowshon Moreno, Joique Bell, Chris Johnson, Darren Sproles, Bilal Powell, Maurice Jones-Drew, Arian Foster
My Pick: Chris Johnson
He is averaging 85 yards a game and has yet to reach the rectangle. Johnson always starts the season slow and then explodes. I am hoping that he starts this week by getting his first touchdown.
Check out Zach Greubel’s latest article: Chris Johnson: The Patience-Tester
DraftStreet Tier 8:
T.Y. Hilton, Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery, Denarius Moore, Hakeem Nicks, Santonio Holmes, Eddie Royal, Mike Williams
My Pick: Eddie Royal
Five touchdowns in three games. It’s hard to argue against that.
If you have not had a chance to try any daily leagues lately yet, I would suggest doing so. Not only are the results immediate, you can even withdraw money right after you win it. No more waiting till March for your fantasy football commissioner to send you the check. The absolute best tool to use for Draftstreet pick em’ leagues or any daily league is our defensive team statistical breakdown.
Good luck this weekend and remember to only gamble what you can afford to lose.
