Fantasy Football Trade Guru
Week one is upon us and it’s not too early to start thinking about fantasy football trades. Usually, most owners want to test out their fantasy teams for a couple weeks before they start thinking about trades, but some of us need that one final piece to the puzzle to begin our journey. Each week, I am going to be giving trade advice and posting my favorite questions. The biggest reason I can see someone wanting to trade before the season starts is because they drafted in a position that forced them to miss out on a guy they were targeting and that’s the exact case for our first trade.
Trade Question #1
Hey Guys, I had my draft recently and was really bummed that I could not land Reggie Wayne. The other manager does not currently have a tight end. I was thinking of offering the following; I would be trading away Steve Smith and Antonio Gates and in return I would receive Steven Jackson and Reggie Wayne. Did I mention I have Andrew Luck? I just want Reggie Wayne sooo bad.Trade Guru Advice
My first thought when I see this trade is… holy one sided batman! The positive of all this is that the trade is one sided your way. I will emphasize this every day of the week, there is no problem at all with trying to get a lot for a little in fantasy football. We play this game to win and you should be doing everything in your power to do so. Back to the trade, let’s start out with the wide receivers by themselves. If it is only Steve Smith for Reggie Wayne, I would personally take the Wayne side. Remaining, we have Antonio Gates for Steven Jackson. Jackson has far more value than Antonio Gates. It would be like comparing a delicious Stone IPA to a luke warm Coors light. I would much rather have Jackson. Now look at the entire draft and you see that it’s heavily favored for the guy who gets Wayne/Jackson. That being said, I hope that you send this trade offer and I hope that your fellow manager accepts. If the other guy is reading this same article you may find yourself needing to even out this trade, regardless of if he has a tight end or not.
Trade Question #2
Hello, I had a draft this Saturday and found out that I would have to miss it. I told the guys to draft for me using the ESPN top 100. I forgot to tell them a limit on positions and came to find out that I have no second running back, but I have Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Cam Newton. It’s not a terrible position to be in, but I need an RB2. I just offered a guy Cam Newton for Matt Forte. Think he might bite?Trade Guru Advice
Sorry to hear that you had to miss the draft. It’s always better to be there live, but these things happen. I think this trade is fairly even with a lean in the Forte direction. The key with getting stuck with three of the top quarterbacks is to look at the entire league. Your goal is to get an RB2, but it’s everyone’s goal to be solidified at the running back position. If you are making an offer for Forte you need to make sure that the other owner has a need for a better quarterback. You also need to make sure that owner has the ability to lose a running back like Matt Forte. I want to say that he’s going to take the bait, but I also know you need to hold the hot product for the “at need” buyer.
Good Luck to everyone as the season gets under way. I look forward to reading your trade questions soon.
