Fantasy Football Trade Guru: Week 2

Week one brought us some amazing performances by a number of unexpected players. We also watched a couple of the “studs” have rather weak performances. There is always a sense of panic after week one, but It’s totally normal to feel this way. Just settle down, sit back, relax and see how many other owners are in similar situations.

Trade #1:
Should I trade Demaryius Thomas for Vernon Davis and Darren McFadden? My other WRs are Torrey Smith, Roddy White, Golden Tate, Brian Hartline and my TE is Jermichael Finley.

Yes, I think this is a good trade for you. You drafted well at receiver and that allows you to do a trade of this magnitude. Smith will get better. White is a stud and it’s looking like Hartline will have another 1,000 yard season. Putting Vernon in your lineup basically gives you another receiver. Finley is dead to me and he should be for you as well. He may have a couple of good games, but for the most part he’s looking like the same old Jermichael. Pull the trigger and cross your fingers that DMC can stay healthy. Once Finley has his good game, trade him to someone who is desperate.

Trade #2
I have Kyle Rudolph at TE who is a bit under-whelming. I want to trade for Jared Cook. I was thinking about giving up D. Richardson and G. Bernard to get him. Is that too much? It would hurt me at RB depth. My league is 12-team PPR with a 17-man roster.

It is way too much to give up two startingish runners for one TE. Yes, “startingish” is a new word. I would suggest looking at a four player trade. Try to pair one of your backs with the red nosed reindeer (Kyle Rudolph) in exchange for Jared Cook and a lesser back. The problem with trading for Jared Cook at this moment is that he just had a massive game for the Rams. Keep in mind what I said in the first article. You should almost always offer a blatantly one sided trade (in your favor) just to see what the other guy sends back. You never know who will bite and who wont.

Trade #3
I have Torrey Smith as my WR3 in a standard league. Is it wise to keep him or dump him as soon as possible, given the fact he is pretty much the only guy Baltimore has catching the ball and didn’t seem very good? I also have A.J. Green and Antonio Brown… Any suggestions?

To be honest, Torrey Smith had a very solid game. He only caught 4 receptions, but turned out 92 yards. People with calculators know that translates to 23 yards per catch. Plus, the fact that he only had four balls should not matter since you are in a standard league. Expecting a receiver to see the end zone in every game is a mistake. I would hold on to Torrey for a couple of weeks before you do anything drastic. If you can get someone of higher value, do it. Just remember that Smith is the main guy in the Ravens’ offense and he was left wide open a couple of times. All Flacco has to do is hit Smith when he is open and they will make the plays that they have been known to make.
